What is a bridge?
A dental bridge is one of the options we offer at Rai Family Dentistry to replace missing teeth. A bridge can be used to replace either a single missing tooth or a couple of teeth that are missing in a row. The traditional dental bridge is comprised of two dental crowns and one or more replacements for the missing teeth, called pontics. The pontics are held in place by the crowns, which our dentist places on the supporting natural teeth or dental implants neighboring the gap. Because the bridge is held in place by the crowns, it is a stable, non-removable restoration. Your dental bridge is created from molds and impressions of your teeth to ensure it looks and feels natural.
Do I need a bridge?
If you have lost one tooth or a few teeth in a row, Dr. Shivaprasanna Rai may suggest a dental bridge depending on the health of the supporting teeth. A bridge can improve your smile by:
- Restoring the natural volume and shape of your face
- Improving your ability to properly chew and speak again
- Enhancing your smile’s beauty
- Preventing the natural teeth from drifting out of position
